Rectory Farmhouse

Project Overview

Rectory Farmhouse is a Grade 2 listed house originally built in the 1800’s. It was in need of renovation and modernisation to meet the needs of a young farming family. A two storey rear extension was proposed to replace the existing single storey element. This allowed a large open plan family kitchen and dining area to be formed at ground level, with two new bedrooms above. The planning strategy included a pre-application enquiry that informed the subsequent successful planning applications. Mesh Energy under took a feasibility study to review and refine a range of renewable heating and hot water solutions. After analysis Ground Source Heat Pumps, with horizontal collectors, was the favoured solution. This, together with upgrading the existing fabric, has ensured that the house provides a comfortable internal environment whilst reducing ongoing running costs and reducing carbon emissions.
